1 Who We Are

FreeConverto ("we", "us", or "our") operates the website located at freeconverto.com (the "Service"). We provide free online image, PDF and document tools, free AI-powered tools, and free utility calculators.

This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose and safeguard your information when you visit our website. Please read this policy carefully. If you disagree with its terms, please discontinue use of the site.

2 What Information We Collect

Information You Provide Directly

• Contact form submissions: When you use our contact form we collect your name, email address and the content of your message. This information is used solely to respond to your inquiry.
• Email address: If you email us directly at [email protected] we retain that correspondence to respond to you.
• Text you enter into AI tools: If you use the AI Text Summarizer, AI PDF Summarizer or Chat with PDF, the text you paste, the text extracted from your PDF and the questions you ask are sent for processing as described in Section 3.

Information Collected Automatically

• Log data: Like most websites, our hosting provider (Hostinger) automatically records standard log data including your IP address, browser type, browser version, pages visited, time and date of your visit, and time spent on pages.
• Cookies and similar technologies: We use essential cookies required for WordPress to function, and our advertising partners may use cookies and similar technologies to show and measure ads. See Sections 4 and 5 for details.
• Usage data: We may collect anonymized data about how visitors interact with our tools to improve functionality.
• Advertising data: When ads are shown, Google and its partners may collect your IP address, device and browser information, cookie identifiers and information about your interaction with ads. See Section 5.

3 How We Process Your Files

FreeConverto offers tools across images, PDFs, documents, AI and utilities. The way your file or text is handled depends on which tool you use. We are direct about this distinction because it matters for your privacy.

Browser-Based Tools (Most of the Site)

The large majority of tools on FreeConverto — including the Image Converter (for non-HEIC formats), Compressor, Resizer, Cropper, Rotate & Flip, Filters, Color Picker, Metadata Viewer, Add Watermark, Meme Generator, PNG to ICO, Image to Base64, Image to PDF, the AI Image Background Remover and AI Image Upscaler, the PDF tools Merge, Split, Rotate, Compress, Protect, Unlock, Watermark and PDF to JPG, and our utility tools (Sleep Calculator, BMI Calculator, Age Calculator and Grammar Checker) — operate entirely within your web browser using JavaScript, in-browser AI models and libraries such as the HTML5 Canvas API and pdf-lib. When you use these tools:

• Your file or input is processed locally on your own device
• Your file or input is never uploaded to our servers
• Your file or input is never transmitted over the internet
• We have no technical ability to access, view or store files processed by these tools

Server-Processed Tools (Word to PDF, PDF to Word, OCR PDF, HEIC Conversion)

Four conversions currently require processing power that isn't available inside a web browser, so they run on our own server instead. When you use one of them:

• Your file is uploaded over an encrypted HTTPS connection to our conversion server
• It is used solely to generate your converted output — for nothing else
• It is automatically and permanently deleted from our server as soon as your download is ready, typically within minutes
• No one on our team manually views, reviews or accesses your file
• Your file is never used to train any AI model, never backed up, and never shared with any third party

AI Text Tools (AI Text Summarizer, AI PDF Summarizer, Chat with PDF)

These three tools use a third-party AI provider to generate summaries and answers. When you use them:

• The text you paste, or the text extracted from your PDF in your browser, along with any question you ask, is sent through our server to our AI provider, Groq, which generates the response
• Your original PDF file itself is not uploaded — only extracted text is sent
• We do not store your text or the AI response on our server after your result has been returned to you
• We do not use your content to train any AI model. How Groq handles data is governed by Groq's own terms and privacy policy, available at groq.com/privacy-policy
• Please do not paste or upload passwords, financial account details, government ID numbers or other highly sensitive information into the AI tools

4 Cookies and Tracking Technologies

Cookies are small text files stored on your device. We use the following types of cookies:

Essential Cookies

• WordPress session cookies: Required for the website to function correctly. These do not collect personal information and are deleted when you close your browser.
• WordPress comment cookies: If you post a comment, WordPress may store your name and email in a cookie for convenience.
• Consent cookies: If a cookie consent banner is shown, we store your choice so we don't ask you again on every visit.

Analytics Cookies (if enabled)

We may use Google Analytics to collect anonymized information about how visitors use our website. Google Analytics uses cookies but does not identify you personally. You can opt out via the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.

Advertising Cookies

We show ads through Google AdSense. Google and other third-party vendors use cookies, web beacons and similar technologies to serve and measure ads on our site. These are described in Section 5.

Managing Cookies

Do Not Track

Some browsers offer a "Do Not Track" (DNT) signal. We do not ourselves track you across third-party websites. However, there is no common industry standard for DNT, and our advertising partners may not respond to DNT signals. Use the opt-out options in Section 5 to control personalized advertising.

5 Advertising (Google AdSense)

FreeConverto is free to use and is supported by advertising. We use Google AdSense to display ads on our website. Please note the following:

• Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to our website and/or other websites on the internet.
• Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to our site and/or other sites on the internet.
• Google, as a third-party vendor, may use cookies such as the DoubleClick cookie, along with device identifiers and your IP address, to show personalized or non-personalized ads, limit how often you see an ad, and measure ad performance.
• We do not provide Google or any advertiser with your files, the text you enter into our tools, or your contact form details for advertising purposes.
• We do not control the cookies or technologies set by third-party advertisers, and their use is governed by their own privacy policies.

How to Opt Out of Personalized Advertising

• Visit Google Ads Settings to turn off personalized ads.
• Visit aboutads.info (or youronlinechoices.eu in Europe) to opt out of personalized advertising from participating third-party vendors.
• Use your browser's privacy settings, an ad blocker, or the Global Privacy Control signal where your browser supports it.

Consent for Visitors in Europe, the UK and Switzerland

If you visit from the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, we use a consent management tool to ask for your permission before advertising and analytics cookies are used. You can accept, decline or change your choice at any time. If you decline personalized advertising, you may still see ads, but they will not be personalized based on your browsing activity.

6 Third-Party Services

We use a limited number of trusted third-party services to operate our website:

• Hostinger: Our web hosting provider, including the server that powers our four server-processed tools (Word to PDF, PDF to Word, OCR PDF, HEIC conversion). Privacy policy at hostinger.com/privacy-policy.
• Groq: The AI provider that generates responses for our AI Text Summarizer, AI PDF Summarizer and Chat with PDF. Only text is sent to Groq, as described in Section 3. Privacy policy at groq.com/privacy-policy.
• Google AdSense: Used to display advertising, as described in Section 5. Privacy policy at policies.google.com/privacy.
• Cloudflare: We use Cloudflare as our CDN and DNS provider. Cloudflare may log standard request data. Privacy policy at cloudflare.com/privacypolicy.
• Google Analytics (if active): Used for anonymized website usage statistics. Privacy policy at policies.google.com/privacy.
• WPForms: Used to power our contact form. Form submissions are stored temporarily in WordPress and sent to our email. No data is shared with third parties.
• Google Fonts: We load the Inter font from Google Fonts. Google may log standard CDN request data. Privacy policy at policies.google.com/privacy.

We process Word to PDF, PDF to Word, OCR PDF and HEIC conversions on infrastructure we control directly — we do not route these files through a separate third-party conversion API. We do not sell your files, contact form details or personal information to any third party in exchange for money.

7 Data Retention

• File data (browser-based tools): Never retained. All processing happens in your browser and no file data is ever transmitted to or stored on our servers.
• File data (server-processed tools): Files uploaded to Word to PDF, PDF to Word, OCR PDF or HEIC conversion exist on our server only for the duration of the conversion. They are automatically and permanently deleted as soon as your download is ready — typically within minutes, and never retained beyond 24 hours under any circumstance.
• Text sent to AI tools: We do not store the text you submit or the AI response on our server after your result is returned. Any retention by our AI provider is governed by its own privacy policy (see Section 6).
• Contact form data: Retained for up to 12 months to allow us to respond to follow-up inquiries, then permanently deleted.
• Server log data: Standard server logs retained by Hostinger for up to 30 days for security and diagnostic purposes.
• Analytics data: If Google Analytics is active, anonymized usage data is retained per Google's standard retention policies (up to 26 months).
• Advertising data: Cookies and data collected by Google and other ad partners are retained according to their own policies, not ours.

8 Your Rights

Regardless of your location you have the following rights with respect to any personal data we hold about you:

• Right to access: You may request a copy of any personal data we hold about you.
• Right to rectification: You may request correction of inaccurate personal data.
• Right to erasure: You may request deletion of your personal data ("right to be forgotten").
• Right to restriction: You may request that we restrict processing of your personal data.
• Right to portability: You may request your personal data in a structured, machine-readable format.
• Right to object: You may object to our processing of your personal data.
• Right to withdraw consent: Where processing is based on consent (for example advertising cookies), you may withdraw it at any time.

9 GDPR — European Users

If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA), United Kingdom or Switzerland, you have additional rights under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and equivalent laws.

Legal Basis for Processing

• Legitimate interests: We process server log data to maintain website security and performance.
• Contract performance / your instruction: When you choose to use a server-processed tool (Word to PDF, PDF to Word, OCR PDF, HEIC conversion) or an AI text tool, we process the uploaded file or text solely to deliver the result you requested. Submitting it is treated as your instruction to perform that specific, one-time task.
• Consent: We use advertising and analytics cookies only with your consent, collected through our cookie consent tool. You can withdraw consent at any time.
• Contract performance: We process contact form data to respond to your inquiries.

Data Transfers

Our service providers, including Google and Groq, may process data outside the EEA, including in the United States. Where this happens, transfers are conducted under appropriate safeguards such as Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) or an adequacy framework, as required by GDPR Article 46.

Data Protection Authority

You have the right to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority. A list of EU supervisory authorities is available at edpb.europa.eu.

10 CCPA — California & US State Users

If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) and California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA) grant you specific rights regarding your personal information. Residents of some other US states have similar rights under their own state privacy laws, and you may use the same contact details below to exercise them.

Your California Rights

• Right to know: You have the right to know what personal information we collect, use and disclose.
• Right to delete: You have the right to request deletion of personal information we have collected from you.
• Right to opt out of sale or sharing: You have the right to opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of your personal information. We do not sell personal information for money. However, the use of advertising cookies by Google and its partners to show you ads based on your activity may be considered "sharing" or a "sale" under some laws. You can opt out using the links in Section 5.
• Right to correct: You have the right to request correction of inaccurate personal information.
• Right to non-discrimination: We will not discriminate against you for exercising your privacy rights.

Categories of Personal Information Collected

In the past 12 months we have collected: identifiers (IP addresses via server logs and cookie identifiers) and internet or network activity (pages visited, browser type, ad interactions). Files uploaded to our server-processed tools and text submitted to our AI tools (Section 3) are not retained by us.

11 Children's Privacy

FreeConverto does not knowingly collect personal information from children under the age of 13 (or under 16 for users in the EEA). Our Service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly show personalized advertising to children.

If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us immediately at [email protected] and we will promptly delete such information.

12 Security

We implement appropriate technical and organizational security measures to protect your information. These include:

• SSL/TLS encryption: All data transmitted between your browser and our website — including uploads to our server-processed tools and text sent to our AI tools — is encrypted using HTTPS.
• Browser-only processing wherever possible: The large majority of tools process files locally in your browser — no file data is ever transmitted to our servers for those tools, making interception technically impossible.
• Minimal server-side footprint: For the four tools that require server processing (Word to PDF, PDF to Word, OCR PDF, HEIC conversion), files are held only in temporary processing storage and are automatically deleted immediately after your download is ready.
• No persistent file storage: We have architected our systems so that long-term file retention is not part of our process, whether a tool is browser-based, server-processed or AI-powered.
• Hosting security: Our infrastructure is hosted on Hostinger which maintains SOC-compliant data centers with physical and network security controls.

However no method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure. While we strive to protect your information we cannot guarantee absolute security.

13 Changes to This Privacy Policy

We reserve the right to update this Privacy Policy at any time. When we make material changes we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page.

We encourage you to review this Privacy Policy periodically. Your continued use of FreeConverto after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated terms.

For significant changes affecting how we use your personal data — such as adding a new server-processed tool or a new advertising partner — we will make reasonable efforts to notify users via a notice on our website.
